Joel is primarily known for his detailed small scale drawings whose narratives often reflect a mysterious, atmospheric and intrinsically unusual mise-en-scene. There are hints towards the use of symbolic, surrealist and absurdist combinations.
The drawings are highly rendered and only occupy a few square inches of the paper. He invites the viewer to study closely and observe a world where things perhaps are not quite what they seem.
